Painted Face: Lichtenstein Inspired

Trenton Xavier and I wanted to do a Roy Lichtenstein shoot for months and were finally able to shoot this just weeks before my move to New York City. So thankful we got to do this!

Trenton has awesome vision and I was blown away when I saw his shots. He picked out the locations and we walked all over Dickson St and The Square to try each. The stares, whistles, waves, jaw drops and slowed down cars made it all the more fun. I truly began to feel like a cartoon character come to life.

Because this was inspired by Lichtenstein's work, I took creative liberties and mildly changed the makeup. I have teal eyebrows instead of black, and I like the modernity of white hair rather than yellow. And I played with modern textures in the clothing to give it a newer feel. My hat's off to Roy for his incredible oeuvre.

1. Abby loves cats so of course she picked up the stray to join the shoot.
2. Beautiful lady on a rock.
3. Teal eyeliner on the bottom lashes and cameo earrings.
4. Behind the scenes action. Mallory at work.
5. Cotton field fairy.
6. Dreamy cotton field setting.

Mallory and I collaborated (again!) for a cotton field shoot and boy, was it delightful.  Tramping through the field to the cotton, deciding we would say Tom gave us permission, should anyone question us. "Tom said we could!" Suddenly Tom became the funniest joke in the history of jokes. Now I can't remember what last name we gave him.  Maybe Abby will remember, she's my "memory" after all.

Photo Shoot World

Can I admit something? Most of the time I day dream in what I call "photo shoot world". I see a color, a fierce makeup look, a cunning tea cup, a well cut glove, darling vintage item, avant garde hairstyle, dainty flower bouquet, or dark wooden floor and my mind instantly creates a photo shoot around that item.  Mind you I do it with people too so watch out, I might be mentally styling you into one of the shoots.

Since it's my passion, I assumed this was an excellent choice for a career. Right? Do what you love is what "they" say. (Who are "they"? Elizabethtown anyone?)

Hence I am creating photo shoots for my portfolio. I have a stunning model and best friend, Abby, who happens to be my sister as well (Not biological, but since when did that matter? We're family). I had no idea how skilled she was until this shoot. She blew my mind! Then bring on the photographer, Mallory, who is such a visionary and eats creativity for breakfast. She is a winner in my book. Aka she's a killer photographer. I get stinkin' stoked when we find time to collaborate.

Ladies and gentlemen, I present:

Cityscapes Photo Shoot

I don't know if you know this, but I'm about to be a celebrity. Today I had my picture taken for my university's website and last week I was in a photo shoot for Cityscapes. I'm big time.

Ok I was in a couple shots that might go up on the UA website, but I WAS in a photo shoot for work because we're in an ad in Citiscapes Magazine. I'm a bridal consultant at one of the BEST places to work, She Said Yes with some of the SWELLEST people on earth. We were voted by Citiscapes readers as the best bridal shop in Arkansas (!!!!!!!) and we're putting an ad in the magazine to say thank you :).

Brandi (the owner) gave us a treat by having a makeup artist and hairstylist (they were awesome!) come dandy us up for the shoot, then took us out to dinner. It was one of the best nights of my life :)
Here's a behind the scenes look:

Starting the hair.

Glennis couldn't stop giggling, that silly woman. Love her.

Brand before her makeup, um how does she
look so great?

A little lip gloss love.

Almost ready!

We were SOOO excited about all the fun!! We felt
like queens

Posers.

Keep your balance Brandi!

All in all, it was a splendiferous party. I love my She Said Yes family. Can't wait to post the Cityscapes ad! We're famous!!

Styling photo shoot

Here are some images from a styling assignment when I was at AIU in London:

We were to take a fashion item and shoot it in different ways as if for an advertising campaign. My item was scarves, as you'll see.

Photo Shoot

Here is a sneak peak of the Black Swan photo shoot that Mallory B (photographer--and a stellar one at that), and Elizabeth H (my model and newest muse), and I put together. Mallory and I are creating/rebuilding our portfolios so this is our first endeavor. I'm thrilled for the other brilliant ones we're working on next.

I did the makeup and created the entire tutu. It was work! But completely worth it. I can't wait until more are ready to show!! Photo shoot sets are pretty much my favorite place to be on earth.

More lovely pictures to come later!!

I just joined Polyvore, for those that are interested in checking it out here. I'm The Tele Booth (note: must be read/stated using a Brit accent : )

RainY Monday‡ Sad Day

Even when it's gloomy outside, we don't have to let it make us gloomy as well. It's true. Now if we were in Seattle and the weather was gray more often that not, that might be different. Too little sun can really negatively affect our mood. But don't let the gray, hazy days get you down, ok? It's not worth it.

Recently, my friend Meagan gave up her time to model for me and I appreciate it so much! We had a blast!  I did the makeup, hair, styling, art direction, and photography and she glowed with her beauty in all the pictures. I could work on photo shoots for most of my life and be so happy. I love the preparation, the stress, the clothes and makeup flying all around and whisking through one outfit after another. Except for the photography, that is NOT my expertise or talent. I enjoy creating the look and having another talented soul capturing the photos. I didn't have someone on hand to do this shoot, so I attempted the photos and did an ok job. Thankfully, Meagan was stellar! Here are a couple of favorite shots:

Make shift studio at home.  :)
I hope everyone enjoys the rain today! Enjoy yourselves lovelies,

Color Me Fast

One thing in line for spring is extremely bold colors. I for one adore bold and bright colors and am excited about the possibilities for this season.
If however, you are cautious when it comes to brightening your wardrobe, why not try playing with bold makeup? It's a more inexpensive way to test the waters and if you find it's not working--just wash it off. Simple.

My friend Jana is beautiful, no?

We love exotic photo shoots as you can see

I'm into bold lipstick colors at the moment. It brings color back to my winter white face. This one is  {Wild Plum} by L'oreal.

Adding a twinge of color to your cheeks and lips will help ward off the sickly pale look we all tend to get after the winter months drone on. It doesn't enhance your pale-ness  as you might think. If you choose a color that is in your skin, it will really complement and draw it out. I have a lot of pink in my skin so I enjoy a bold pink lip color.
