Fashionably Late

I'm back! Well in a month or so I can be back officially. This year has brought trials and tears and a lot of laughs and blessings too. One month from today I will call New York City home (about time!) and will have been married for about 24 hours to my best friend. I'm looking forward to the the new life!

I never had the courage to make a post whilst this year whirled by and I regret it slightly, but no looking back. Here's to the future of Style of Your Own. She's coming back full force.

1. Abby loves cats so of course she picked up the stray to join the shoot.

Mallory and I collaborated (again!) for a cotton field shoot and boy, was it delightful.  Tramping through the field to the cotton, deciding we would say Tom gave us permission, should anyone question us. "Tom said we could!" Suddenly Tom became the funniest joke in the history of jokes. Now I can't remember what last name we gave him.  Maybe Abby will remember, she's my "memory" after all. 

NWAFW-She Said Yes Bridal

I had the pleasure of working behind the scenes at NWA Fashion Week for the She Said Yes Bridal Evening of Couture show. Working for SSY has been a grand adventure and learning process for me and Friday night's show was STELLAR.

When I told the ladies at the front I was supposed to be backstage, they asked me if I was doing hair for the shows. I was totally flattered!

Unfortunately my camera died after only a few shots, but here they are:

The She Said Yes Fashion Show team!

The show was a splendid success! I adore the behind the scenes hustle and bustle and the mad scramble before the models hit the stage. I was on my knees pinning the front hems on gowns so they would not catch on the rough stage material. It was a funny sight I'm sure. 

Thanks so much for everyone's help and all the laughs! We SSY ladies love what we do : )

How To: Dress Long Arms

This is the first of a new installment of the How To series based on questions I receive from readers and friends.

Miss Elizabeth Hammons asked me to give tips on dressing a body with long limbs. Here goes!

For long arms, ranges of 3/4 length sleeves are going to be your best friend. 

Wide horizontal stripes are known for widening body parts, but they play
well with the proportions of long arms, most especially if yours are thin.

Many dress shirt sleeves these days are made at the 3/4 length. Or you can roll the cuff once or twice for a relaxed look.

Often, longer 3/4 sleeves that hit on the
lower part of the forearm 'cut off' arms, so it's something
to be careful trying to sport. However, if you have long arms, you can pull it off well.

Patterned sleeves are another great route because they de-emphasize length and add horizontal interest.

This picture well emphasizes how the 3/4 sleeve can shorten a long arm and make it more proportional to the body. These women have similar arm lengths and the shorter sleeves really emphasize long arms (Beth, I think it looks great), but if you're self conscious about it, this sleeve can make you feel a lot better!
