Go Red Luncheon

It's been too long, friends!

Two weeks ago I had the privilege of volunteering with American Heart Association for the Go Red Luncheon. I did the makeup for their Sweetheart's who were in the fashion show and it was a blast! The four teen girls I worked with were so cute and really excited about being pampered and strutting in the show. (They did a swell job too). I learned that the Sweetheart's are a group of sophomore high school girls who participate in a nine month volunteer program. At the end, they get pampered (professional hair and makeup) for a photo shoot with Citiscapes Magazine to be in the May issue. Oh, and they get to attend a ball. I WANNA GO TO A BALL!!!!!!!!

Meet Mary-Kate, an AHA Sweetheart.
Beth Anne and Mary Kate. Sweet, southern ladies :)     (Beth Anne, I apologize for making it look as though a bouquet is growing from your head, lol)
Instructions. Get ready to strut your beautiful selves!
Maddison and Darby looking swell before showtime
The tables were lovely

It was a such a fun event! Volunteer work is great, especially when it involves my passion of doing makeup.

Have a splendid week!

RainY Monday‡ Sad Day

Even when it's gloomy outside, we don't have to let it make us gloomy as well. It's true. Now if we were in Seattle and the weather was gray more often that not, that might be different. Too little sun can really negatively affect our mood. But don't let the gray, hazy days get you down, ok? It's not worth it.

Recently, my friend Meagan gave up her time to model for me and I appreciate it so much! We had a blast!  I did the makeup, hair, styling, art direction, and photography and she glowed with her beauty in all the pictures. I could work on photo shoots for most of my life and be so happy. I love the preparation, the stress, the clothes and makeup flying all around and whisking through one outfit after another. Except for the photography, that is NOT my expertise or talent. I enjoy creating the look and having another talented soul capturing the photos. I didn't have someone on hand to do this shoot, so I attempted the photos and did an ok job. Thankfully, Meagan was stellar! Here are a couple of favorite shots:

I hope everyone enjoys the rain today! Enjoy yourselves lovelies,

Crafting

I love, love to reuse, remake, and recreate pieces. Be it jewelry, clothing, or accessories--it's all splendid! During the delightfully unexpected snow break, I made my new favorite thing to wear....a button cuff bracelet!! Here's the scoop on the creation:

This is the cuff from a jean jacket I have. I wanted it to be 3/4 length sleeves so I cut this off and saved it for  a special project.

Next, pin or lay out the buttons where you want them. If your heart is set on keeping the buttons where you first pinned them, take a picture of it before you start sewing. Then you can reference it in the midst of sewing.

And here is the finished product:

Tada! I'll show better pictures of it later, but this works for now.

I sewed two large snaps on the back to hold it together by the way. I've worn it three times and had many compliments on it. I'm stoked about the turn out.

Later, lovelies

Makeup Night

This morning I sat outside (bundled up) reading my Bible and then Sherlock Holmes. Two of the best books in my opinion. In very different ways of course. I love having a balcony with a view of the gorgeous snow. It was a stellar way to start the day.

Last night included many Disney movies, sewing and makeup. It was a blast! I'll post about my sewing projects later (SUPER stoked about my button cuff bracelet and detachable lace collar :)

Here's to snow days where I can sit around and craft all day. Woot woot!!!

This is Kelly. She's a goober :). You can tell by her adorable smile.

I took her makeup inspiration from this pic courtesy of Refinery29 .

See? Cute!

My friend Drew let me use this picture for the next look

Doesn't she look great! This purple ended up being more gorgeous on her than I expected.

Then we played with hair :). I think I am obsessed with side chignons at this time
We ladies at DJ lane love makeup and Disney parties. Wanna join? GET OVER HERE.

Enjoy the long weekend.

Snow Day!

Have I expressed how much I crave snow days! No school, days to stay in and paint, play with makeup and dress up. And the snow is incredibly fluffy! I played in the nearly two feet and took a running face-first  slide into the snow and..I moved a couple of inches :)

My work space

Last week's snow. It's quite deeper now.

My makeup work space. It's cheerful and has great natural light.
See? Snow days make for time to decorate

I volumized and pouffed(sp?) the top right of my hair then pulled the rest into a  left-side chignon . They balanced out very well.
My 90's style thrifted earrings complemented the look nicely.

Snow days are splendid. Spend them well my friends.
